The Design Crack Guide to Paper
Designer profile: Studio LIBERTINY
The work of Tomas Gabzdil Libertiny, a Slovakian-born designer based in the Netherlands, can best be described as obsessive-compulsive. But this complete devotion to his craft also leads to his profound and moving design experiments. As an example, he has recently created a Bic stained cabinet which gets its hue from collecting hundreds of Bic [...]
arik levy makes a book brush
Arik Levy’s products are always witty and often times pure genius. The book brush is not genius. It’s not even particularly useful. But something about their combination is so fun it’s like watching a bad Frankenstein movie.

Juxtaposed: religion is called by blankblank, the producers of this shelf, a curated bookshelf. They have brought together the most important religious texts and displayed the in perfect balance and harmony. This is the perfect gift for those family members who are wearing a pink sheet one day and a yarmulka the next. [...]
DecisionPaper by Paradoxy Products
I recently received an email from this company: Paradoxy Products. I believe they were writing to make me aware of their chess set, but to be honest I only wanted to write about their DecisionPaper. What is it? It’s a note pad with a cut directly in the middle of the paper. What does it [...]
AnAtomic Factory: Milk Gone Bad
Anatomic Factory recently introduced their fantastic lamp series: Milk Gone Bad. WHen the light is off, this simple paper lamp looks like a generic, white milk carton. When the light is on, the carton transforms into a three dimensional canvas that Anatomic Factory has expertly printed with the brightly colored stylings of Bombo. [...]
Cities Wall Decoration Collection by Granada Design
Granada Design has created a collection of inexpensive wall art that give props to your favorite internationally loved cities. Of course, my city by the bay, San Francisco, has not made the initial collection which is not doing much for me. But outside of personal prejudices, this simple wall art is striking, fun, [...]
Green Week: The Matt Gagnon Recycled Paper Side Table
Matt Gagnon, a Brooklyn based designer and manufacturer, has created his side table out of Homasote. This material is made of 100% post-consumer recycled paper. The board is only about as thick as plywood, so the pieces are cut out, shaped, then bolted together. The piece is finished off with linseed oil and accented with [...]
Laptop Case by Giles Miller of The Farm
I noticed this post on the Inhabitat blog recently, and I just wanted to point out how lovely the concept for a laptop case is. Giles Miller of The Farm has always pushed the boundaries with his experimentations on recycled cardboard, but he’s made one crucial move on this product design that will win him [...]

Cheerharan Toilet Paper by Design Temple
I’m sitting here at my couch, and quite honestly I cannot concentrate at all because there are pigeons cooing outside of my window and it’s driving me crazy. So, instead of writing a bunch of useless babble because I can’t focus, I would like to present to you a product that speaks for itself: toilet [...]
Genius Table by Arash and Kelly
I’m not a genius, but I know more than a couple of them, and if they have a singular trait it would be that they always need a pen and paper handy for sketching ideas. Now, along comes: The Genius Table! OK, Arash and Kelly’s design has been out since 1999. But it’s new to [...]
Plus Tablecloth by Echt Design
Here’s an interesting product design that I dug up from Belgian design studio, Echt. The design is so simple that it’s nearly genius. It’s a paper tablecloth that has perforations along the perimeter of the cloth. The perforations let the person dining simply tear off a napkin whenever he or she needs one. Very cute.
OTO 100 Storage System by Pil Bredahl
One thing that is not apparently clear in the image of the OTO 100 Storage System by Pil Bredahl is that the shelving system is a series of compressed cardboard rings that arrives packed as if it were a Russian Matryoshka Doll with each successively smaller ring nested within the larger ring. That is to [...]
Spikey Baby by Shin Tanaka
I’m not even exactly sure how this works, but I’ll take a stab. What Shin does is design these little folded paper characters. Then, he puts up the pattern of the folded character up on his website, so anyone can replicate his work or make their own custom Spikey Baby. He also puts up pictures [...]
