I found these pieces recently and found them to be beautifully colored. Most outdoor furniture i encounter does not have the cohesive strength to make a whole collection. Rather, most outdoor furniture that you might find in this category are a motley collection of dissimilar objects. I applaud the consistency.

“Weltevree is a Dutch product label. Weltevree develops and produces authentic products for the living environment. Appliances that satisfy our primary desires: distinctive, original and of excellent quality. Weltevree was born out of the need to make these products accessible to all.”
That’s their hook. My hook is yet another masterful design studio with a strong [...]

Illusion Table is so expertly performed that I couldn’t quite geta handle on its expertly crafted form. First, it is made from laquered ash which is not what I thought. At first glance, it’s steel or aluminum or anything else but wood. But this illusive use of such a simple material is not where the [...]

OOOMS is a guy/girl design duo based in the Netherlands. Their work has a sort of random quality that has a bit of natural bent.
The solar birdhouse is a recent product that creates a beacon for the garden at night without using any grid power to do so. I think it may scare the crap [...]

There are so many special pieces that will be shown at 100% Norway that it’s too hard to talk about them all. Probably my favorite piece is The white Origami Chair shown as the second to last image. This chair is designed by So Takahashi and is a made of plate and bar steel with [...]

I’m going to give away secrets: The way to find the freshest stuff on earth is to always be checking out the design schools the world over. Beckmans is one of the best. Below is some student work from the recent Stockholm Furniture Fair. Both items are furniture finished in white. One piece is a [...]

The work of Tomas Gabzdil Libertiny, a Slovakian-born designer based in the Netherlands, can best be described as obsessive-compulsive. But this complete devotion to his craft also leads to his profound and moving design experiments. As an example, he has recently created a Bic stained cabinet which gets its hue from collecting hundreds of Bic [...]

Zipshape is a technique developed by Schindlersalmeron that allows for curved surfaces to be made in furniture with creating costly molds or setting up cumbersome steaming chambers. The designs get their curves by the interlocking teeth that make up the top and bottom of the furniture piece. The furniture gets its curviture by [...]

I saw this bench, and it immediately spawned a thought about dieting and weight loss. I’m getting fatter. I’m not feeling like a real chunky, but I’m slowly creeping up from a slender 190 lbs. (I’m 6′-4" BTW) to something more than this, let’s say. I think the name is interesting because my [...]

Over the years, I’ve seen a number of these expandable book shelves, but this bookshelf is maybe the most elegant solutions I’ve seen. It eexpands from completely closed to wide open without looking either too cheap or too high techy. In fact, at any level of expansion, it looks like a piece of [...]

N-7 is another beautifully built table that takes on the current trend of what I call origami or faceted design. Where did this trend start? I seem to recall a modern building in Hong Kong built about twenty years ago that sort of kicked off this trend in my mind. Since then, I’ve seen so [...]

Etra Small Bench
I’ve been looking for decent modern outdoor furniture for quite some time now. Outside of Europe, quite frankly, there is very little choice when it comes to where you sit on an aesthetically modern surface. Modern Outdoor gives me choices. And they give me choices like this beautiful bench above that are green [...]

I received this email about a year ago, and just never had time to post this. Sandy Lam has created an ingenious system. The pieces of furniture are built into the floor of a terrace and easily slide up to create a table or a bench. This is the perfect furniture solution for people who [...]

There is nothing terribly smart about creating furniture around a charging station. It’s just that it needs to be done. So often we designers design for how we lived our lives twenty years ago and not for how we live our lives now. The Bedford Smart Recharge Station recognizes your needs: pay bills, [...]
