G | A | Design International is an interior design firm based in London with offices in Dubai and Budapest. Their work focuses on the hospitality sector which include projects such as Superstar Suites in London, UK and the spectacular Moevenpick Spa in Jordan. One aspect of their work that I find particularly compelling is that a great deal of their designs require a highly customized interior. For years, I was an interior designer for a corporate firm, and outside of the forms the walls took and some materials choices everything was off the shelf. With G|A|Design International, everything is considered such as custom light fixtures, door hardware, and all the often overlooked items in between.
I chose them to be on Design Crack because someone at their office has decided to subscribe to our newsletter, and I thought , hell, I need to show off some of the amazing design talent our email subscribers make happen. Recently, I’ve been scouring through my newsletter subscribers, and I’ve managed to find a number of interesting companies that subscribers have either founded or work for. So, for the next several weeks, I want to point out a couple dozen interesting, design cracky if you will, companies that caught my eye.

Agency is about as slick of an interactive marketing company as you could ask for. For starters: Agency.com. How cool is that? This is like the best URL ever for an interactive marketing firm. It’s like if I somehow landed Design.com which would never happen because, quite frankly, Agency is much cooler and more powerful than me. (The closest I come to URL glory is TheHater.com which I picked up for a steal… if anyone’s interested, drop me a line).

Digging deeper into Agency, I find that this company has worked with the titans of industry. They have hit a number of fantastic campaigns out of the ball park including ads for Croc Week, website design for HP Music, and British Airways branding to name a few. The one thing missing here is myself. Agency, if you can hear me, are you looking for architects with incredible skill? Let’s talk.

John Moorehead is a young graphic designer and illustrator from Pittsburgh, PA. There are a number of examples of John’s work on his website, and I urge you to check it out if you are in need of some graphic design or ad work. Probably my favorite object from Mr. Moorehead’s portfolio is his logo itself. I find it beautiful in its simplicity and slight gothic quality. It makes me wonder why he chose an umbrella to be such an integral part of his logo. The immediate, visceral reaction is to say that the J perfect describes the shape of an umbrella handle. I like to think that is also symbolizes optimism in a sort of Mary Poppins I-Can-Fly sort of way that represents the future of this young designer.
