Over the next few weeks, I thought I would start adding some of my favorite architecture and design related videos from the awesome video sharing site, Revver. These next few are from Designguide.tv. I think you’ll find these videos pretty compelling.

Droog Design presented its third installment of the Dry Tech exhibition. A partnership between Droog Design, the Delft university of technology and some of the brightest minds in design. The aim is to … bring high-tech materials and creativity to a higher level. Function Tiles is an oldie but a goodie. It’s a tile system from 1997 by Droog Designers Peter van der Jagt, Erik-Jan Kwakkel, and Arnout Visser that makes the tiles work more functionally, thus the name “Function Tiles”. The concept is brilliant. That is, getting more out of your shower or bathroom with limited space. Or, does the system function for minimalists that need tons of gadgets but want to hide them? However you spin it, the idea is really, really cool. I mean, how cool would it be to have a tv built into your shower? Pretty damn cool. BTW, it’s not available, so if someone could please manufacture this soon, that would be goo.
OK, sure, the project was designed a decade ago, and I’ve really been trying to keep my design searching very fresh, but I’m starting to take my guards down and looking for older, fantastic designs. I don’t know if I would ever go as far as having anything as popular as a LeCorbusier chair on the site, but preserving the memory of a project like this seems like a good goal.

Description: The Dishtable was a design for the Praq restaurant. The restaurant concept is to be playful and child-friendly, but also remain modern and appealing for adults. The concept of the table is ingenius and the execution is solid.

Description: Claudia Linders’ project is worth noting as solid (however, laborious) effort to catalogue and recongnize the importance of Brands. The idea is to unlabel your clothes to give them a sense of clothes for clothes sake and not clothes for label’s sake. Do you still love your Prada jacket once it’s generic? Miss Linders goes one step further by using the discarded labels to create a super-brand garment that is, in a sense, a commentary on her whole wardrobe.

Description: I’ve included two design objects here. I highly suggest you take a look at this site for the ingenious reuse of gorgeously design vintage stereo equipment. The designers have update the technology(for instance, tape player to DVD player) but maintained the beauty of the original design. Fantastic!
