Have you been wondering how to dispose of your old couch, but you don’t want to send it off to a huge landfill? I’ve got an idea! Rip the thing apart and break it down into its component pieces. And when you get to the springs, cut those up and turn them into a chic, modern lamp. That’s what Aswoon does every day to create the remarkable Lite Tapestry Tower. The tower, a combination of fluorescent light, springs, steel and acrylic are expertly produced and a tribute to ingenuity and the burning question: “What else can this old couch be?”

I sometimes cover luggage. I’m just attracted to the architectural quality I guess. Ever since I covered a $20,000 suitcase designed by Frog Design as one of my very first posts, I’ve been on the hunt for the next ultimate case. This is not it. However, for $600 it is a darn good alternative. The leather and metal accents on this case are impeccable. I recently saw one in a shop and took a close look at which point I declared this bag the Cadillac of suitcases. I mean, it literally rips its form straight from the shape of the new Cadillacs. I’m even a bit surprised that there is no promotional deal between these two brands where if you buy a Caddy you get this suitcase. Also like a Cadillac, the case is durable, smooth, and makes you feel like a retiree owning one.

I don’t know how or why I came about this architect duo. Probably I was smoking a joint while surfing. I wonder because it’s not often that I would consider including a product on the site designed by someone with a name I can’t pronounce. “Corneille Uedingslohmann” doesn’t just fall off the tongue for me. However, their presentation table slips easily into my consciousness . The table they have created is very similar in form to Sacha Lakic’s table that I showed a while back, except this one floats over the ground. Oh, not by some new-fangled electromagnet technology. This one hangs from a structural post concealed from the ceiling. What I find striking about this piece may simply be that the means of production for such a piece is open to any designer that can dream it. I guess I wasn’t sure a piece like this was possible until I saw it. Now I can add this into my realm of possibilities.

Y and Kei are a Korea base design duo with offices in New York who’s 2007 Spring collection astounds me. Their work is permeated with white and a shimmering tan. The overall concept is casual as if the models were walking along a beach boardwalk enjoying the summery breeze. I’ve been looking at several collections lately, and admittedly this is not my area of expertise as I feel with product design or architecture, so the metaphors are hard to come by. So, let’s just say as beautiful as this collection is, the thing that struck me is the clothes are just so wearable. Everything I see of their Spring 2007 collection I want to buy for my wife which is probably the best sign of a winning collection.

Description: Campeggi is a company that focuses on new ways of experiencing furniture, and the Sneaker is one of the most innovative. It’s a combination of soft, comfy exercise ball mixed with a mini trampoline. The objective is to create a casual, comfortable environment for personal physical fitness. As is the case with all of Campeggi’s work, the Sneaker uses the bold colors of sports teams mixed in with the forms of pulled taffy as it’s motif.
