Inside Out Collection Liqueur Glass Set

Hey! hey! What the f##k is going on here? Which one of these glasses is the original and which is a ripoff? About a year ago I reported on a woman who had created a design for a glass so similar that it feels like an impossible coincidence. The pint glass by Emiko Oki is pretty much the same design concept as the Inside Out Collection. I guess I should be asking myself does it even matter that they are the exact same design. My answer is yes it does matter. It’s an insanely cute and clever idea for a product that can be sold at a reasonable price. That means that whomever had come up with the concept could do well on the sales of this thing. I know nothing of protection of ideas, so maybe there is no case for Oki or the Inside Out Collection, but it might be worth investigating. You tell me. Is this a big deal or not?

  1. Randy Says:

Not a big deal in my book.

  2. Mark Says:

It’s not unheard of for two designers to come up with a similar concept without knowing that the other existed. It happens. Way more often than anyone realizes.

  3. Billy Says:

Interestingly, there is another design very similar to Emiko Oki’s trophy tableware which was shown at Milan this yr.

  4. Marcus Says:

Alissia designed these 2004 at the design academy in Eindhoven and Emiko designed hers in 2006 so the question is which one was first… And Alissia designed a whole series all based on the same concept that is quite different from Emiko’s.

Marcus, Not true. Pint glass was shown in 05- I don’t know when they were designed. The first in the public domain is usually the yardstick.

Very interesting. To be honest, I love both glasses and wanted to write a racy headline. glad to hear some smarter comments than my own.
