I was recently at Circuit City (which I normally hate going to, by the way. They have no selection.) and I was looking for a backup hard drive for my system. The one I found compelled to buy was the My Book Hard Drive by Western Digital. I honestly know nothing about the company, nor do I even really know which hard drive is best, but when I see an attractive, high-concept hard drive, I’m sold. There are a couple of concepts that I’d like to point out. First, the hard drive is shaped and designed like a book, the perfect metaphor for an object that stores your information. It also has a really neat visual cue on the front of the book. It’s a small blue light that indicates the current capacity of the hard drive, so you always know how close you are to filling the thing up. By the way, I did some digging for the designer because I liked the form so much, and lo and behold, it was IDEO, the innovation granddaddy. Oh! and on top of great design and a handy user interface, this thing hold 500 GB of data and costs about $229 dollars.
