Cover Tiles by Studio JSPR

The picture I’ve included does not really do this product justice. What Studio JSPR has created is a shower that reveals all its working parts through the shape of the tile. In fact, the controls of the shower and the shower heads are integrated into the ceramic tiles. I have mixed reactions about this system. There is no doubt that it is a beautiful and intriguing system. The obvious counterpoint from an architect’s perspective is will the culture of construction make this shower better or worse? In San Francisco, a town known for it’s elaborate Victorian craftsmanship, we have about the worst craftspeople available on the planet. The shower would certainly be incorrectly installed, crooked, and probably have pieces missing in the end if it were put in any home in San Francisco. I wish I could someday have a shower as clever as this, but I would definitely have to comb the back streets of Firenze to find anyone to install it properly.
