I wish I could express the beautiful patterns this shelving system makes when the owner puts his or her books onto this shelf. At first glance, you might be saying, “OK. It’s shelves…NEXT.” But wait. MDF Italia has made a couple of subtle design maneuvers that make all the difference in the world. First, the shelves are quite tall. Their height help create a sort of second wall, a field of shelves, that is necessary to dematerialize the furniture. Second the shelves are very thin and white. The white edges and background give a base that let the books pop out from the shelves giving the books a perfect frame. And finally, the random pattern of the individual shelf heights creates a rhythm (almost musical composition) with the books. I’m ordering these immediately… after I get rich and move into my modernist dream home.
