Pinch by Jos van der Meulen

Pinch is an homage to the trees that give up their wood for the clothespins they produce. Artist Jos van der Meulen has created a sculpture where he has selected tree branches and meticulously carved from these branches perfect clothes pins. This product is a sculptural essay on green design. Pinch piece viscerally recognizes where every single clothespin come from. This recongnition of nature’s bounty is often times lost on me when I go to a store and see everything I’ve ever needed neatly stacked up and ready for purchase. Often, I throw away items that I could easily reuse, such as a clothespin. Now, I might just think twice.
