Tetrad Shelving by Brave Space

Brave Space is a group of three designers based in Brooklyn who have finally capitalized on the inherent modularity of Tetris pieces. If you don’t know Tetris, it’s a video game where (I think) 6 distinct pieces drop from the sky, and it’s the job of the game player to fit the pieces together in the most efficient way possible. The website also has a little kit which you can download and cut out the tetris shapes to figure out how you’ll create your own Tetrad at home. I love the concept, however I’m a bit skeptical of the construction. I didn’t fully understand how the boxes clipped together. Also, the edge detailing is sort of that funky, leave it exposed to save money, kind of finish which I’m cool with but gets overused (at least at my design firm). Brave Space have a number of other excelent furniture pieces, but I’m affraid that they will never produce a piece as iconic as the Tetrad again.

[…] Yesterday, I wrote about the IAC building in Chelsea, New York. Today, I wanted to point out a building that is just underway right across the street from the IAC called 100 11th Ave. It’s a condominium project designed by another world famous architect, Jean Nouvel. My feelings about this building (at least how it’s shown on the boards) is much more hopeful than the impression I had with the IAC building. This my first impression of this building is it looks like a curved Tetris puzzle come to life. […]
