Description: Last week was the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. I, unfortunately, am too poor to go to any international design events this winter, so I’ll feature a few of the designers that have been featured in the Dutch Design Week in recent years.
The Asylum Collection marks a point where 19th century gothic mysticism meets a playfulness that only Dutch designers seem to be able to provide. The Sisyphe lamp, for instance is an exploration of the lamp mashed up with the rat wheel. The concept is brilliant as it brings focus to the continuous consumption of a lamp. It brings a much more visceral story of where the power comes from to make the light. And, possibly more importantly, it’s beautiful.
