Storage Shelving by Francois Bauchet for Galerie Kreo
Travel Tip: If you take a visit to Paris any time soon, then I urge you to stop by the Galerie Kreo not far from the Place d’Italie. I’ve always wanted to live in a place where well designed objects are exhibited in a gallery setting. OK, some may argue that IKEA fits that definition. Maybe so. Maybe that’s why IKEA is so popular: because America is starving for good design displayed in a gallery-like setting. (Well, I would take Galerie Kreo over IKEA any day when it comes to browsing).
I’m getting off topic. What I’d like to focus on is this storage shelving by Francois Bauchet available at Galerie Kreo. This is just one of hundreds of beautiful pieces available there, but this piece struck me, I think, because of my fascination with electronic parts. To me, this piece looks like an over-sized computer chip taken off of a circuit board. The piece has the rigidity and rhythm of electronics, but then takes on the rounded aluminum edge of an iPod. However, the high-tech form is thrown into a perfect balance with the farms of the thin wood frame that give the shelving its structure. I want to bring it home and hug it. But, without knowing the price, I would think that I’ll have to treat it like Britney Spears: something I desire but only admire it from afar. And like Britney Spears, If I brought this shelving home with me, my wife would not be too happy.
