Margaret Howell Spring / Summer 2007
Margaret Howell provides the highest style in the vein of a genre where the only term that comes to mind is preppy. All of her Spring/Summer ’07 collection seems directly inspired by either a croquet game if all the players were characters from the O.C. (the O.C. is an American TV show full of young, beautiful, and smug people, for all you non-American readers), or costumes from a modern interpretation of The Great Gatsby as if it were directed by Raulph Lauren. The cotton poplin pleated dress with green satin trim that I’ve pictured above is one of my favorite pieces. I wouldn’t necessarily call this dress representative of the collection in terms of color. All the tones are fairly neutral in the collection, but this may be the only really dark piece. The fit of this dress, however, is universal throughout the collection. It’s a light, comfortable look with an unpretentious and easy appeal.
