ID 40 2006: The Edge Chair by Justin Pocano of Minus

Edge Chair by Justin Pocano of Minus

Over the next week or two, I will include some of my favorite designers from ID Magazine’s “ID 40” list of top designers of 2006. It’s a pretty amazing list, so I urge you to pick up a copy of this magazine.

Minus Studios is YADC (or Yet Another Design Collective). I guess I never really noticed this trend, but it makes so much sense to have a design collective as a way to promote several collective skills rather than go at it alone. As they say, a rising tide lifts all boats. This collective, like so many others is based on the edges with nothing in the center… of the country, that is. Probably their most prolific designer, at least in the products category, is Justin Pocano. His work, the Edge Chair, could almost be in the same vein as a recent blog entry I did on the 60 vision chair. It’s something about the jet set, forward thinking, come on and let’s have a martini kind of attitude that I love about this piece of furniture. It makes me want to go smoke a pipe and listen to some jazz records.
