Forrest Myers Aviary Chair

Forrest Myers Aviary Chair

Barry Friedman Ltd. has a knack for finding some of the most fascinating, well crafted, and highly experimental furniture around today. And as you might expect, if you really want something that Barry Friedman sells, you will pay the price. Unfortunately for me, I wouldn’t make in a year what a piece like Forrest Myers’ Aviary Chair would cost, but honestly I’d rather see this in someone else’s gallery than my own home. The Aviary Chair is a pretty amazing construction, but I like it for nostalgic reasons. Each year, a family of pigeons roosts on the molding just above our bay window. And each year, the birds spend weeks finding just the right sized twigs to build their nests. Just like clockwork, I find a pile of twigs that looks just like this chair directly below our bay window which were the discards of the pigeons. So I understand Mr. Myers’ homage to the aviary arts. I feel at home with it… although I probably wouldn’t sit on it.
